Mike McLoughlin was born in 1958 and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a fifth generation British Columbian. He has lived in Kelowna since 1988 and is married to Sue, a family doctor. They have three adult children and two grandchildren. Everyone lives in Kelowna.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geophysics from the University of California, Riverside campus in 1981, Mike attended the University of British Columbia and graduated with a Masters in Business Administration in 1983.
At various stages of his career, Mike has raised over $14 million dollars for Cancer Research, been Executive Director of the Central Okanagan United Way, launched a marketing business called Okanagan Target Marketing, and managed Knockie Cherry Orchard that grew and exported over 60 tons of cherries annually.
Mike taught business skills in Zambia for two years from 1994 to 1995 with Youth With a Mission (YWAM), where he founded the Christian Enterprise Trust of Zambia, a micro finance institution dedicated to relieving poverty through micro loans for small business. CETZAM has supplied over 107,000 loans and provided employment for more than 2,000 Zambians.
In 1998, Mike & Sue McLoughlin opened their first walk-in medical clinic, Medi-Kel, in the Dilworth Shopping Centre in Kelowna. For the past twenty years, they have opened clinics in Rutland, the Real Canadian Superstore and the Pharmasave at Harvey and Ellis in Kelowna.
In 2015, Mike founded Walk-in Clinics of BC to provide a voice for walk-in clinics in the health sector in British Columbia and gathered clinic owners and physicians together at an annual conference to discuss the very valuable role that walk-in clinics play in providing primary care to British Columbians.
Recently, Mike retired to a 4 acre family estate on Hall Road in Kelowna that features a turtle pond, an urban vegetable garden and access to Mission creek. The estate is called Creekside Pond and Garden. Mike has been spending his time travelling with his adventure partner Sue until the recent global pandemic. Now he is diving deep into his history, his internal landscape and his commitment to his faith in Jesus Christ.
